2015 Holiday Ballet Social Media Roundup

New York City Ballet Nutcracker by Katie Friedman for Elle

Happy New Year! The holiday season is finally coming to a close, and we hope you have enjoyed the festive Nutcracker filled season (unless you dance for the Royal Ballet in which case the Nuts won’t stop until mid January). Please enjoy our 2015 Holiday Ballet Social Media Roundup which we hope will get your 2016 off to a great start. Happy New Year from both of us at Pas de Blog!

10. We hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas dance offerings from the BBC this year. One of Andre’s favourites was Darcey’s Ballet Heros. You can check out his blog on the programme here. Eric Underwood was featured as an upcoming ballet hero, and he posted about it on his instgram on Christmas Day.

9. Dancers carried on working and rehearsing over the break between Christmas and New Years while most of us non dancers were relaxing on the couch indulding in bubbly, chocolates and treats. I particularly enjoyed seeing Pas de Blog tagged in this video by Prix de Lausanne apprentice Julian Mackay at the Royal Ballet while I was mid glass of fizz and had my hand in the a box of Thornton’s chocolates.

8. Roberto Bolle and his Friends were back, and this time the gala shows took place in Italy before New Years. Dancers featured were Melissa Hamilton (Semperoper Dresden Ballet), Matthew Golding (Royal Ballet), Anna Tsygankova (Dutch National Ballet), James Whiteside (American Ballet Theater), Hee Seo (American Balleth Theater), Dawid Trzensimiech (National Romanian Ballet), Semyon Chudin (Bolshoi) and Anna Tikhomirova (Bolshoi). How I wish I could have been there!

7. Santa visited New York City Ballet to take morning class. Luckily principal dancer Megan Fairchild caputed this monumentous occasion.

6. Royal Ballet principal Lauren Cuthbertson from the Royal Ballet wished everyone a happy New Year from a trampoline and beach in Scandinavia and remains adorable.ย  Happy New Year, Lauren!

5.ย  New York City Ballet’s instgram account has been posting very cool snaps taken on film. This one features Tiler Peck and and Tyler Angle in the Nutcracker. Head over to their instagram page for the full effect!

4. English National Ballet went viral just before Christmas with their amazing Bohemian Rhapsody reinterpreted video. Not 100% festive, but we loved it! It’s already got over 2 million views so I guess I was not alone in ejoying a small break from all things Christmas.

3. To reignite our festive spirits and see out the holidays on a high note, Sergei Polunin and Natalia Osipova danced in The Nutcracker together on New Years Eve. If you are resourceful you may even possibly find highly illicit footage on YouTube from this event. Andre and I are both personally looking forward to seeing Posipova dance together in London at Sadler’s Wells in the summer.

2. The Royal Ballet used some incredible 360 degree voodoo technology to help viewers experience extracts from their production of the Nutcracker from ANY point of view. Just watch the video and drag your mouse around (or tilt your phone/tablet screen) to see different views. It’s like you’re really there! I now have my heart set on this being used for the company class during World Ballet Day in the future.

1. Happy New Year! New Years Honours were announced, and they included some wonderful recognition for the dance world. A much deserved Knighthood for Matthew Bourne, OBE for choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, and CBE for the wonderful Tamara Rojo. Congratulations!
